Our Emergency Placement Resource (EPR) program provides temporary care for children who are unable to remain with their natural family or legal guardian due to immediate safety concerns.

Awasis Agency currently operates EPR homes in Thompson, Winnipeg, and Oxford House, ensuring that children and youth across Manitoba have access to safe, supportive, and culturally responsive emergency care when needed.

Designed for immediate, short-term use, our EPR homes offer 24-hour care in a family-like setting, ensuring a child's safety and well-being during times of crisis. Placements typically last no longer than 30 days, allowing case managers time to assess the situation, develop a plan, and arrange appropriate long-term care. Unlike group homes, our EPRs maintain a home environment that provides individualized support, comfort, stability, and nurturing care during difficult transitions.

An EPR placement is activated when a child's safety is at immediate risk and intervention is required without prior notice or standard planning processes. This may occur when:

  • A child's current placement has broken down.
  • There are concerns regarding sexual exploitation or gang involvement.
  • An after-hours placement is required through Designated Intake Agency (DIA) services; or
  • Other urgent circumstances place a child at risk and require immediate intervention.

The primary goal of the EPR program is to ensure the immediate safety and well-being of children and youth while supporting case planning and the transition to a more permanent placement.
